It’s that time of year when the ambience is rife for falling off the best-for-health rails.
You’re running around, the stress quotient can be up there and there’s just so much to do – argh.
Not only that, we don’t tend to pay as much attention to what’s going in our mouths and the 80/20 rule can become more like 60/40 or even 30/70!
It’s OK. You’re quite normal. And heck after the times of 2020/2021 it’s kind of understandable if you have a break out.
Here are 9 tips to help you get through without too much fall-out.
- Remember it’s OK to say no. No to celebrations, no to food, no to requests and no to drinks.
- If you drink a wine or three have some water, infused water or sparkling water on hand to have in between glasses. We have infused water recipes here. (You’re welcome – grinning face!)
- Try to set yourself a two glass wine limit. Remember it’s dehydrating and no friend of your waistline, your hormones OR your skin.
- Bear in mind that it takes about 20 minutes for your satiety cues to reach your brain and tell it you’re full.
- Try ‘mindful eating’. It means tuning in, appreciating every morsel you eat and taking your time to chew it well.
- If you’re a guest take a food contribution. It gives you brownie points for good manners and it also ensures there’s something on the menu that you know is fine for you.
- If you’re the host ensure you have some low-sugar, low-kilojoule mocktails on offer.
- Take a 30-minute walk around the block or on the beach. Take some of your festive-partners with you.
- Employ self-compassion. Don’t beat up on yourself if you go a bit overboard. You can get back on track and be back to business as usual in a couple of days.
Above all lovelies, enjoy.
