MAVALA Switzerland.

Have you heard of it before? It’s a Geneva-based nail care brand that’s been around for 60 years or so. To me, they’ve always been associated with their mini bottles of polish. However, they do lots of other beauty goodies too.

Why we rate it

A few years ago – not long before I stopped going to so many beauty product launches – they launched Mavala’s Gel Finish Top Coat into New Zealand. Right away I was hooked. It’s so good and serves up the super shiny effect and longevity of nail gel. But. There’s no need to dry it with UV or LED light! That’s a win.

Finding it in 2020

Go back to 2016 and I was in Northern Ireland with my cousin Vinny. She must have been asking me about nail products because I remember suggesting she try it. So we set off to town to purchase some and it was nowhere to be found. Not even in the big smoke of Belfast.

I remember thinking they must have stopped making it. Either that or MAVALA had ceased to be.

Fast forward to two weeks ago and I was annoyed with my nail polish chipping. While I love getting my nails ‘done’ with gel or Shellac or similar, I dislike having to get it removed and re-applied. I also resent the time spent on the maintenance and the ongoing expense. As a former nail technician, I much prefer doing my own and as a lazy groomer these days I like quick fixes I can do myself!

My old bottle was almost empty so I went onto our friend Google to look it up. I was hopeful there was a possibility I could find it on Amazon.

MAVALA Gel Finish Top Coat is widely available!

Yes, it’s on Amazon. It’s also on MAVALA.com.au and MAVALA.co.nz. If you’re reading this Vinny it’s also on MAVALA.co.uk. 😊

Key Ingredients

While it’s not all-natural it is free from formaldehyde, phthalates, sodium laureth sulfate, paraben and fragrance. And it doesn’t damage the natural nail as it uses a nitrocellulose resin which allows the nail to breathe. As mentioned earlier it also doesn’t require a UV lamp to dry and it can be removed with an acetone-free nail polish remover.
