Smoothie time!
Seriously, we’re having a smoothie fest at the mo as you may know if you dropped by a couple of months ago when we shared this yummy Peppermint Smoothie recipe.
The other day I saw someone comment online that they didn’t get smoothies. “Why not eat the food?” they asked.
It’s a good point. However, it takes a lot more time and preparation to eat food.
Nutrient Blast
By blending up a lot of ingredients into a smoothie you can offer your body a nutrient blast. And unlike juice, it gives you plenty of fibre.
I find it a simple way to up my quota of vegetables, especially the green variety.
When it comes to green veg I recommend having at least five and if you can do it, 10, serves of vegetables per day.
They’re nutrient powerhouses and the superstars of the food world:
- alkalising
- anti-inflammatory
- gut health
- blood sugar balance
- bone protective (It’s not about milk)
- minimise bloat
- weight loss
- skin radiance
- protect the brain
Plus greens make you look and feel younger. That’s got to be good right?
The body responds to vegetables in such a positive way it’s a bit of a case of ‘why wouldn’t you?’ Most of us don’t eat enough vegetables so again, a smoothie is a great way to get more. And if you’re looking to drop a couple of kilograms smoothies are a great buddy.
Tips:
- Although fresh is best it’s easy to use frozen fruit and veg and in summer it’s deliciously icy cold.
- It’s always a good idea to have frozen bananas and berries in the freezer for smoothies.
- Serve in a glass or make the consistency a little thicker and create a smoothie bowl and garnish it with things like antioxidant-laden blueberries and pomegrante seeds, omega-3 essential fatty acid rich walnuts, chia seeds, whatever takes your fancy.
Here’s one for you to try – I hope you enjoy it!
