Yay, summer has landed.  Finally!

Time to indulge in our love of infused waters we say. 🍉 🍋 😋

When the heat is on it’s important to keep our hydration levels up for our skin, weight and hormones.

Indeed, more than half of the human body is made up of water so it’s crucial to every part of our physiology including our brains.

You’ve no doubt heard the age-old wisdom that we can live for weeks without food but only days without water. Therefore when we sweat and breathe in the heat it’s important to replenish our supplies for optimal functioning and energy.

A favourite summer thirst quencher at Youology HQ is infused water. It’s fresh, beautiful water with a little extra pizzazz. Plus it looks pretty stunning too.

Infused water includes fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are added to your water for flavour.

We love the following infused water recipes:

1. Apple and Cinnamon

  • 1-2 sliced apples
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Cold water trimmed with apple and cinnamon is a tasty treat and the cinnamon helps to keep blood sugar nice and stable and your energy pumping. Make a jug of this baby the night before and pop it in the fridge. All you need to do is add the sliced apples to the bottom of the pitcher – sans seeds – accompanied by the cinnamon stick.  Top up with pure, filtered water and voila!

2. Berry and Lemon

  • 1/2 cup berries of your choice (according to taste)
  • Optional: lemon slices

For this easy-peasy recipe, you can use any berries you want. Most berries are packed with antioxidants and blueberries and strawberries are superfoods. You can also try other types of berries such as raspberries and blackberries. Place the berries at the bottom of your water jug. For extra oomph, you could add some lemon slices for more detox potential. Fill the jug with filtered water and leave it in the fridge overnight. Optional: add some ice on top of the fruit to release the flavours and keep the water icy cold.

3. Watermelon and Mint

  • Watermelon slices
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves

This has got to be our summer fave! Like the others, it’s very easy to make and tastes mostly of the watermelon slices with a touch of refreshing mint. Try to find a seedless watermelon if you can and use slices that don’t have a lot of rind on them. This allows you to get as much flavour as possible. Add some muddled mint at the bottom, cover with ice, then fill with water.

Really, your options are endless. You could try stalks of celery, nectarines, peaches and plums, it’s really personal choice.

And if you want to sparkle them up a bit use sparkling water.

But whatever way you have them, enjoy!

Bon appetit. 🍉 🍋 😋
