Are you a lover of dry body brushing?
Or did you read the headline and think ‘what are they talking about…’?
Whatever camp you fall into, it’s all good.
Not everyone’s been initiated into the art of dry body brushing. But for those of us who have, it’s a game-changer for your skin. (And your detox if you’re on our 21-Day Hormone Detox!)
What Is Dry Body Brushing?
Dry body brushing is quite a simple concept. Using a natural bristle brush you ‘dry brush’ your skin from the tips of your toes up to your neck.
It takes about five minutes before your morning shower and feels super good. Or you could it before your Epsom salt bath in the evening.
Picture it. Bristles brushing over your skin. Can you feel the sensation? It’s kind of like a bristly massage. Heavenly.
If you are having an Epsom salt bath, it should help your pores absorb the magnesium from the salt better for an even better sleep.
Why On Earth Would We Brush Our Body Skin?
There are many reasons to add dry body brushing to your regime a couple of times a week. (Or daily during a detox.)
As you may know, the skin is our largest organ. On average it weighs 3.6kg and we have 2 square metres of it. Therefore, it’s pretty important and we give it loads of tender loving care.
Dry body brushing is one way to do this.
Have you ever noticed how scaly patches can pop up on your skin at times?
Dry brushing nixes them and any odd lumps and bumps of dead skin cells. Plus it helps to unclog pores, gets the circulation going and can stimulate the lymphatic system.
And this stimulation of the lymph system is where it’s a super-good companion to your 21-Days Hormone Detox
How To Dry Brush
Dry body brushing isn’t difficult but there are some guidelines to follow to get the best effects.
Once you’ve done it a few times you’ll notice how much softer and smoother your skin is feeling and that it’s glow factor has increased.
Let’s Do This
- Purchase your body brush. Look for natural bristles and a long handle so you can access all areas.
- Get naked and stand in your bath or shower and begin to brush.
- Start at the bottoms of your feet and move the brush upward to your heart.
- Use long strokes if you can.
- Continue until you’ve covered all of the skin areas.
- Go gently on sensitive places such as your breasts.
- Over time you may notice your skin becomes stronger and can take more pressure but never use a harsh touch.
- Have a shower to remove any residue and skin cells or get into your Epsom salt bath.
- Apply a lovely rich plant-based, no nasties, moisturiser or oil.
Enjoy. 😊
We use this brush. It has a removable handle so you can reach your back, then you can detach the handle and use the brush in your palm for easier to reach places.

Why We Love Dry Body Brushing
1. It Exfoliates
As we grow older the skin’s natural desquamation process slows. This is the technical term for the shedding of old skin cells that are sloughed off as younger skin cells come through. Dry body brushing gives it a boost, brushing them off and allowing the skin to look fresher.
2. It Unclogs Pores
This is a little bit of a sister to the exfoliation action because with time, age and wearing clothes as well as using thicker skin products our pores and hair follicles can become clogged. Dead skin cells can be the culprit here once again but so can dry skin. Dry skin brushing helps clear your skin and open the path to absorbing skin-cherishing skincare.
3. It Gives Lymph Love
Our lymphatic system is crucial to wellness. It comprises a network of tissues, organs, vessels and an infection-fighting watery fluid known as lymph that help to get rid of toxins and waste. Dry brushing can stimulate the lymphatic system and help it to do its job efficiently. So it’s a brilliant add-on to your 21-day hormone detox.
4. It Pummels Cellulite
Most of us have cellulite and not many of us are fans as it’s a build-up of fatty deposits that can feel impossible to shift. The look of cellulite is often likened to cottage cheese and you’ll often find it on the butt and thigh area. Dry brushing may help to break it up though the jury’s still out on that one.
5. It’s A Relaxing Treatment
A wonderful side benefit of dry skin brushing is its relaxation properties.
Relaxation = de-stressing so it’s a win-win in our busy lives.
In fact, dry skin brushing is like a form of self-massage so you don’t have to rely on anyone else and you can do it at any time.
If you decide to give dry skin brushing a go we’d love to know. X
